Former Park Forest Mayoral Candidate Charged With Felony Burglary

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- A former Park Forest mayoral candidate was charged with one felony count of burglary last week when police were dispatched to investigate a report of a suspicious person.

Police were called to the 400 block of South Orchard Drive on February 8 when someone called police and reported seeing a suspicious person who was seen entering the backyard of a residence. Police discovered the subject, later identified as Paul R. Jasinevicius, 55, 351 Osage St., Park Forest, wearing bright orange gloves, carrying a 24" x 3" piece of aluminum and a red spindle of wire walking north from the residence. Jasinevicius related that he was at the residence and picked up the pieces of scrap from the side of the garage, according to police.

Police say they discovered that there was an open door on the detached garage. When officers entered the garage, they observed a piece of cardboard lying on the second shelf of a wooden storage stand that was covered in dust — except for a circular pattern that appeared to be fresh.

When officers compared the circular pattern with the pattern of the spindle of wire recovered from Jasinevicius, they discovered a match to the red spindle of wire, according to police.

Jasinevicius was positively identified by the witness and taken into custody, according to police. He denied that he had been inside the garage, according to police.

According to police, Jasinevicius told them, "I’m very sorry for taking the items. I will never do it again and I will not scrap in Park Forest until I get a license."
