Park Forest Man Shoots At Pit Bulls Attacking His Dog

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- A Park Forest man fired four gunshots at two pit bulls he said were attacking his dog. Police have issued a warning to the owners of the dogs to keep his dogs leashed.

Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Tamarack Street on July 28 shortly before 5 PM to investigate an animal complaint. Upon arrival, a man told police that while he and his family were at home, his wife attempted to leave the house when she observed two pit bulls near the front door of their residence. She then went back into the house and spoke with the family for a while when family members observed that the two pit bulls were now in their backyard on their porch attacking their dog which was chained to the house.

The man stepped out onto his back porch and threw an object at the dogs in an attempt to stop them from attacking his dog. Police say he next grabbed his firearm from his bedroom and fired four shots at the pit bulls while standing in the entrance of his rear door. The dogs ran eastbound as the shots were fired.

Police say the man’s dog was bitten several times and was missing hair in several spots, with open wounds from the pit bulls attacking her.

One of the officers spoke to the owner of the pit bulls who stated that his dogs must have gotten out when his kids left the gate unlatched. One of the dogs had an open wound on her right side with an exit wound on the left.

The resident who fired at the dogs had a valid FOID card. The owner of the pit bulls was informed that the incident would be referred to the Animal Control Officer for additional follow-up regarding proof of rabies and distemper shots for the animals.
