Park Forest Police Ask Shooting Suspect to Turn Self In

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Park Forest Police are asking the alleged suspect in a shooting Saturday to turn himself in peacefully, according to a statement issued by the PFPD Monday afternoon. Police are seeking Timothy J. Lucas, 30, of Nassau Street in Park Forest, as well as any help members of the public might be able to provide regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Lucas.

Director of Public Relations Jason Miller read from a prepared statement at a news conference Monday in the Park Forest Police Station. According to the statement:

At approximately 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18th, Park Forest Police were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Nassau Street to investigate a report of a domestic dispute in which shots were fired.

Witnesses at the scene related to police that the boyfriend of one of the victims, 30-year-old Timothy J. Lucas, shot his pregnant girlfriend, as well as her sister, at the home where all three are believed to be residents. At the time of the incident, 4 children, several of which are Mr. Lucas’s, were inside the home and witnessed the shooting.

Shell casings from a small caliber firearm were recovered from at the scene.

Immediately following the shootings, Mr. Lucas was seen fleeing the residence with a handgun.

The vehicle Mr. Lucas fled in was recovered within 24 hours of the shooting in neighboring Richton Park, but the whereabouts of Mr. Lucas is still unknown.

Police are asking Lucas to peacefully surrender to police. Police are also asking help from the public. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Timothy J. Lucas is asked to call 708-748-1309.

According to police, Lucas is described as African American, 5’5” tall, weighing 155 pounds. The suspect has an extensive criminal record and is believed to be armed and dangerous, Miller said.

Lucas has family in the Chicagoland area, the statement said.

Detective Mike Baugh is the lead detective on the case, according to Deputy Chief Mike McNamara, who took questions from the press. McNamara said Lucas has “several arrests for weapons, several arrests for drugs, and convictions for both.” Police are unaware of any gang affiliations on the part of Mr. Lucas, McNamara said.

McNamara said the shooting was the result of a domestic disturbance, “He was arguing with his girlfriend, the girlfriend’s sister stepped in, and he pulled out a gun and shot both of them.”

McNamara the baby Lucas’ girlfriend was unharmed by the incident.

The property where the incident took place is a rental property, McNamara said, and the incident does “most definitely” fall under Park Forest’s Crime Free Housing Ordinance.

According to Chief McNamara, the girlfriend was shot in the face and the spine, the other victim was shot in the arm. The second victim suffered a collapsed lung.

The four children present were elementary school age, according to McNamara. The children are with grandparents at this time.

McNamara said the suspect does have friends and family in the Chicagoland area, and may still be around, “And that’s why we’re here: to get him so surrender himself so he doesn’t get hurt, so no officers get hurt, so no citizens get hurt.”
