Park Forest Police Blotter Reports Through May 14, 2019

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- These police reports include arrests through May 14, 2019. Charges for those arrested include criminal damage to property, felony aggravated use of a weapon, and felony driving under the influence of alcohol.

Providing more details than readers will find in any other police beat reports, we invite readers to subscribe to get the whole story, every day.

eNews Park Forest has always published addresses of those arrested and will continue to do so. 5 ILCS 140/2.15 states that the governmental body (for these reports, the Police Department), shall release information on those who have been charged, including their name, age, and address. This information is necessary to ensure the proper identity of those arrested.

An arrest does not mean that a person is guilty. All those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty. eNews Park Forest reports this information because the public in the United States has the right to know.  When that information is withheld or under-reported, it leaves questions.  We also want to show the work that the police force does every day that is not reported.  Police in Park Forest respond to thousands of calls per year, the vast majority of which do not end up with arrests.  Whether it’s conducting a routine investigation, pulling over a drunk driver, or responding to a possible theft at a store, the work of the police officer deserves acknowledgment by the public.

Felony Aggravated Use of a Weapon

Ron Rasheed Stevens, 38, 186 Washington St., Park Forest, was arrested on May 2 and charged with felony aggravated use of a weapon, criminal trespass to residence, obstructing/resisting a peace officer, and one count of aggravated assault. Police responded to the 400 block of Talala Street in reference to a report of criminal trespass to a residence at approximately 12:11 AM.

SouthCom Dispatch told officers that an unknown man was inside the residence.

Upon arrival, officers met with the alleged victim who stated that another man by the name of “Ron Rasheed,” according to the report, had been out drinking. “Ron Rasheed” was later identified as Ron Rasheed Stevens, according to the report. Mr. Stevens was an acquaintance the alleged victim had met through a mutual friend. Prior to police arriving, Mr. Stevens and the alleged victim were out drinking, according to the report.

The alleged victim was going to provide Mr. Stevens a ride home to his residence in the alleged victim’s own car, according to police.

Prior to doing so, the alleged victim decided to stop at his residence in the 400 block of Talala Street for unknown reasons, according to police. Once in front of the residence, the alleged victim reported that Mr. Stevens allegedly brandished to firearms while in the vehicle. The alleged victim described the firearms as a silver gun with a black handle and a revolver.

When police asked the alleged victim if Mr. Stevens pointed the firearms at him, the alleged victim said that Mr. Stevens allegedly began waving them around, “fanning” them stating that, “He ain’t no punk,” according to the alleged victim. He then exited his vehicle and, after doing so, Mr. Stevens allegedly got into the driver’s seat of the car, backed the car into the garage of the residence, and went inside the residence, locking the alleged victim out of his own home, according to police.

The alleged victim then went to his neighbor’s residence to call for police, according to the report. While speaking with the alleged victim, the garage door to the residence opened. Inside the garage, police observed the alleged victim’s parked vehicle with the driver’s door open. The door leading into the residence was also ajar.

Police saw no one in the garage.

One of the officers went to the side of the garage and out of view, giving several commands for Mr. Stevens to exit the residence. There was no answer. While at the scene, an officer attempted to call Mr. Stevens via a telephone number provided by the alleged victim. The officer heard a man answering the phone, however, once the officer introduced himself there was no answer on the line, according to the report.

Dispatchers also attempted to call and speak with Mr. Stevens with no answer, according to police. Another officer made several attempts to speak with Mr. Stevens via telephone and reached the voicemail box of a “Ron Stevens,” according to police. Police established a perimeter of the residence.

At approximately 1 AM, officers still had received no response from Mr. Stevens within the residence. An officer requested additional assistance from surrounding agencies and an officer from the Matteson Police Department arrived on the scene to assist. At approximately 1:10 AM, four officers entered the residence with patrol rifles and an armored shield to locate Mr. Stevens.

Officers entered through the garage door and into the residence, according to the report.

Police subsequently located Mr. Stevens in the hallway between the front room of the residence and the bedrooms, according to police. Police ordered Mr. Stevens to the ground at gunpoint and he was taken into custody without further resistance, according to police.

While ordering Mr. Stevens to the ground, police report hearing him yelling, “Guns are on the ground. The guns down,” according to police. Police located two firearms lying directly in front of Mr. Stevens in the hallway where he was taken into custody. One of the firearms was a silver Smith & Wesson .357 caliber Magnum revolver loaded with six live rounds of ammunition, according to police. The other was a silver Smith & Wesson .45 caliber “45 Tactical” semi-automatic handgun with a black handle loaded with nine live .45 caliber rounds of ammunition, one of which was in the chamber, according to police.

Police also noted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Mr. Stevens breath, according to police.

Mr. Stevens had keys on his person which were later determined to be the keys to the alleged victim’s residence and vehicle. The keys were later turned over to the alleged victim, according to police. Both of the recovered firearms were cleared and recovered by one of the officers as evidence. A LEADS inquiry was conducted on both firearms which yielded, “no record on file,” according to police.

Police transported Mr. Stevens to the Park Forest Police Department and he was secured in a cell pending further investigation. The alleged victim told police he wished to pursue criminal complaints against Mr. Stevens, according to the report.

Police also processed Mr. Stevens on three active arrest warrants. One of the warrants was from the Matteson Police Department on a charge of driving while license was suspended ($3,000 D Bond), the second was from the Illinois State Police on a charge of driving while license was suspended ($5,000 D Bond), and the third was from the Cook County Sheriffs Office on a charge of driving while license was suspended ($25,000 D Bond), according to the report.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Enrique Duncan, 33, 85 Elm St., Park Forest, was arrested on May 3 and charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident after police were dispatched to the intersection of Western Avenue and Sauk Trail to investigate a report of a hit and run. The complainant said that she was driving northbound on Western Avenue approaching Sauk Trail when she applied her brakes to stop at the red light at that intersection. She was then her allegedly rear-ended by a blue sports utility vehicle which caused her vehicle to move forward several feet into the intersection, according to police. The complainant turned right onto Sauk Trail to avoid causing congestion.

The blue sports utility vehicle turned the corner with the complainant, parked in front of her, and a man exited the vehicle, inspected both vehicles, returned to his vehicle, and allegedly left the scene of the accident without exchanging information regarding the crash. The complainant thought the driver might leave the scene so she took a photograph of the driver’s rear registration plate, according to police.

Misdemeanor Reckless Driving

Edrick J. Maymon, 21, 10124 Winchester Ave., Markham, was arrested on May 5 and charged with misdemeanor reckless driving and issued traffic citations charging improper lane usage and failure to signal after officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Oakwood Street to investigate a report of a domestic dispute.

While officers were responding to the scene, dispatch advised them that a man allegedly involved left the scene and was driving a white Volkswagen. A Detective who was traveling southbound on Western Avenue approaching Sauk Trail observed a man driving a white Volkswagen SUV which was traveling northbound on Western Avenue. The officer made a U-turn behind the Volkswagen and activated the squad car’s emergency lights and sirens.

As the detective made the U-turn, the driver of the Volkswagen allegedly began driving at a high rate of speed, continuing northbound on Western Avenue, according to police. The detective reached speeds of approximately 80 miles per hour attempting to catch up to the Volkswagen, however, the Volkswagen continued to create a distance, according to police.

Another officer responded to Western Avenue and observed the white Volkswagen allegedly improperly change lanes and failed to signal as it weaved through the northbound traffic, according to police. After the Volkswagen crossed the railroad tracks, it made a sharp turn into the Citgo Gas Station, 2035 Western Avenue, parked at pump number five, and the driver exited the vehicle and started to walk towards the entry doors to the gas station.

An officer and immediately exited his squad car, ordered the driver to stop and returned to his vehicle. Police took the driver, identified as Edrick J. Maymon, into custody, according to police.

Criminal Damage to Property

Kamren R.T. Harris, 18, 7310 S. Lowe Ave., Chicago, was arrested on May 6 and charged with criminal damage to property after police were dispatched to the 100 block of Nanti Street in reference to a report of an unwanted subject.

Domestic Battery

Manuel F. Rivera, 23, 1712 S. Dixie Highway Trailer 226, Crete, was arrested on May 8 and charged with one count of domestic battery after police responded to the 400 block of Springfield Street to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. The complainant told police that Mr. Rivera allegedly struck her in the face three times, according to police.

Felony Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

Deandre Holmes, 30, 827 N. Fiarfield Ave. Apt. R1, Chicago, was arrested on May 11 and was issued traffic citations charging speeding, improper lane usage, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol, driving while license was suspended, and felony aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.

An officer patrolling at approximately 1:44 AM in the area of Western Avenue and Chestnut Street observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Western Avenue that appeared to have trouble maintaining the left-hand lane, according to police.

Aggravated Assault

Kendall B. Randle, 22, 452 Tamarack St., Park Forest, was arrested on May 11 and charged with aggravated assault when police responded to the 400 block of Tamarack Street to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance involving a gun.

No gun was shot. No gun was discharged, according to the report.

A Glock 19 and an AR-15 were recovered from the scene and entered into evidence. Mr. Randle did have a valid FOID card, according to police.

Domestic Battery

Craig O. Keyes, 50, 377 Wilshire St., Park Forest, was arrested on May 11 and charged with domestic battery, two counts of resisting a peace officer, and one count of attempted escape after police were dispatched to the 300 block of Wilshire Street in reference to a report of a disturbance.

DUI

Alec M. Falaschetti, 28, 459 Talala St., Park Forest, was arrested on May 11 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident when police responded to the 200 block of Monee Road to investigate a report of an accident. According to SouthCom Dispatch, a vehicle crashed and the driver appeared to be intoxicated, according to the report.

DUI

Michael Sydner, 55, 12452 S. Lowe Ave., Chicago, was arrested on May 12 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a BAC of .08 or greater, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of liquor by a driver, and improper parking on the roadway.

Police were dispatched to the intersection of Marquette and Meota Streets for a well-being check. The complainant informed dispatch that there was a car in the intersection of Marquette and Meota Streets where the driver appeared to have been passed out and there was loud music coming from the vehicle.

It was 12:04 AM.

The driver, later identified as Michael Snyder, was passed out behind the steering wheel when police arrived, according to police. The vehicle’s transmission was in park at the time, according to police.
