Association to host forums, bring “You’ve Earned a Say” TourMobile to Tampa and Charlotte.
WASHINGTON–(ENEWSPF)–August 27, 2012. AARP today announced plans to host a series of activities at the national Republican and Democratic party conventions designed to raise the level of discussion among candidates and voters on issues including Social Security, Medicare and financial security.
“AARP believes that Americans have earned a say about the future of Social Security and Medicare, so we’re elevating the discussion of these issues in Tampa and Charlotte,” said Nancy LeaMond, AARP Executive Vice President. “Older voters have said loud and clear that they are looking for more information from the candidates and campaigns on plans to strengthen Social Security and Medicare.”
Last week AARP released the “You’ve Earned a Say: Vote for Retirement Security” 2012 Voters’ Guides at www.earnedasay.org, featuring information from presidential, senatorial and congressional candidates – in their own words – on their plans to strengthen Social Security, Medicare and financial security.
AARP now heads to the national party conventions with activities including policy forums, as well as interactive displays for the general public and convention attendees. The You’ve Earned a Say TourMobile, part of AARP’s national conversation on the future of Social Security and Medicare, is coming to both conventions to engage Americans with information – the pros and the cons – of policy options being discussed in Washington and on the campaign trail, and allow them to send a message to the candidates. The TourMobile will travel throughout the Tampa Bay area for most of the convention week, but will set up for a full day of activities in Ybor City on Wednesday, 8/29. In Charlotte, the TourMobile will be stationed at CarolinaFest, within a few blocks of the Charlotte Convention Center, from Sunday, 9/2 through Thursday, 9/6.
AARP will co-host an opinion leader policy forum titled “Innovative Ideas for a Healthy Future” with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and The Hill newspaper at each convention. Also in Charlotte, AARP will co-host a Voto Latino Policy Panel.
