AFL-CIO Executive Council Passes Statements on Key Issues for Working People and Economy

AFL-CIO also unanimously endorses Obama-Biden for re-election.

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–March 15, 2012.  The AFL-CIO Executive Council issued several statements on issues of major concern to working people at its biannual Executive Council meeting, in addition to endorsing President Barack Obama and Vice-President Biden for re-election.

Among important statements, the Executive Council:

  • Emphatically rejected the continuing assault on the fairness of our democracy that the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision represents;
  • Urged America to build on Social Security’s decades of success in helping working people retire with dignity by expanding on its efficient structure to combat a retirement security crisis, rather than cutting it to fund further tax cuts for the 1%;
  • Stood up for women’s health care against the attack on women receiving contraceptive coverage from their employers, an affront to the core belief that women’s right to quality health care includes equal access to contraception regardless of where they work; and
  • Criticized New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s assault on the retirement security of New York’s public servants.

All of the Executive Council’s statements can be found on the AFL-CIO’s recently redesigned website at http://www.aflcio.org/About/Exec-Council/EC-Statements
