CALIFORNIA—(ENEWSPF)—January 20, 2012. Musical legend, Etta James died today from complications from leukemia at Riverside Hospital. Her husband, Artis Mills and sons were by her side according to longtime friend and manager, Lupe DeLeon. Ms. James was 73 years old.
James’ earthy voice spanned a variety of musical genres including blues, rock and roll, soul, gospel and jazz. She won six Grammys and seventeen Blues Music Awards. James was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and 2008. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked her number twenty-two on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
Etta James recorded 28 studio albums, 3 live albums, 6 compilations and 58 singles. Her hits included ‘The Wallflower,” “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” and “At Last.”
