FLORIDA—(ENEWSPF)—February 29, 2012. Davy Jones, the British lead singer of the 1960’s band The Monkees, died today in Martin County, Florida of an apparent heart attack. Jones was 66 years old.
The Monkees was a ‘made for television’ band that made its debut in 1966. The show was intended to capitalize on the fame of the Beatles. In addition to Jones, the band featured Mickey Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork.
The group sold millions of records that included “Last Train to Clarksville,” “I’m a Believer” and “Pleasant Valley Sunday.” The band was supported by a formidable array of talent that included Neil Diamond, Carole King, David Gates, and Glen Campbell.
Following the demise of The Monkees, Jones had a solo career with hit singles that included “Rainy Jane” and “Girl”
