Democratic Members Call on Speaker Ryan to Disband Select Panel in Aftermath of Shootings at Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–December 1, 2015.   Today, Democratic Members of the Select Committee to Attack Women’s Health, Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Diana DeGette (D-CO), Jackie Speier (D-CA), Suzan DelBene (D-WA) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) released the following joint statement and attached letter to Speaker Paul Ryan calling on him to disband the partisan Select Committee in the wake of the attack on a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, CO:

“We condemn the violent attack that took three lives and terrorized the patients and health care providers at a Planned Parenthood Clinic in Colorado Springs over the holiday weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those slain in this attack.”

“But we must do more than mourn. In the last several months, we have seen an uptick in violence against women’s health centers that perform abortions. We cannot live in a society where women are afraid to go to their doctor.”

“Three Congressional committees have already investigated Planned Parenthood based on videos manufactured by an ideological organization that opposes safe and legal abortion services, and Republican Chairman Jason Chaffetz has admitted that there is no evidence that Planned Parenthood has broken any laws. Rather than spending millions more taxpayer dollars on another special Benghazi-like committee to reinvestigate inflammatory and baseless allegations, Congress should turn its attention to ensuring that women get the vital and legal health care services that they need. We call on Speaker Ryan to disband the Select Panel to Attack Women’s Health.”
