Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake Rumbles Off Coast of Honshu, Japan

Honshu, Japan-(ENEWSPF)- A powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Honshu, Japan, the United States Geological Survey reports.

Clocking in today, Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 7:57:12 PM (CDT) – Central Daylight (Chicago), at a depth of 34.9 km (27.1 miles), the epicenter is 212 km; (131 miles) E of Sendai, Honshu, Japan; 239 km (148 miles) ENE of Iwaki, Honshu, Japan; 250 km (155 miles) E of Fukushima, Honshu, Japan; and 409 km (254 miles) NE of TOKYO, Japan.

This event has been reviewed by a seismologist, the USGS reports.

The quake would have caused light shaking on the Japan mainland, according to the USGS "Shake Map."

No current tsunami warning is in effect.
