NATO Strikes Destroy Mobile Rocket Launchers and Missiles in Libya

NAPLES –(ENEWSPF)–7 May 2011.  NATO aircraft destroyed several Qadhafi regime mobile rocket launchers and missiles on Friday morning as part of the NATO mission to protect Libyan civilians from attack.

The weapons were located south of Sirte and were struck using a number of precision guided bombs to minimize the risk to innocent people.

The launchers and missiles cannot now be used to fire indiscriminately on the defenceless population.

“By maintaining our consistently high operational tempo, NATO strikes mean Qadhafi is unable to mass his weaponry to launch large-scale attacks against Libyan civilians. We are saving lives every day and Friday’s successful strike has prevented more civilian suffering,” said Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard, Commander of NATO’s Operation Unified Protector.

NATO’s operation is conducted under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, which called for an immediate end to all attacks and authorized all necessary measures to protect civilians in Libya.
