Occupy Pittsburgh to Rally and March against Citizens United

Pittsburgh, PA—(ENEWSPF)—January 19, 2012.  The two-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, which said corporations are people and money is speech will be on January 20, 2012.

Occupy Pittsburgh will stand with the majority of Americans in opposing Citizens United.  We are calling on Congress demanding an amendment to the Constitution that reverses the decision.  Corporate, Government collusion perverts the democratic system, and it must be stopped.  An “Occupy the Courts Day” has been called for by “Move to Amend dot org,” and Occupy Pittsburgh is responding with a rally and march.

The permitted rally will kick off at 4:00 pm on Friday, January 20, 2012 in Market Square, with local speakers voicing their concerns about the court ruling and the unfettered influence of corporations in politics.  After the rally, there will be a march with a focus on the environmental and human rights crimes committed by corporations who engage in fracking, pollute our air and water, and create industrial waste.  Starting at PPG Place, our “Judge” will ceremoniously post a People’s Bill of Indictment for the corporation’s crimes as well as a People’s Subpoena for its birth certificate.  The march will proceed to EQT’s Headquarters on Liberty Avenue and other corporate offices along the way to do the same.  The march will end at the Federal Courthouse at 7th and Grant to hold an “Occupy the Courts” rally for an amendment to undo the Citizens United decision.
