Occupy the Hood and Occupy Pittsburgh offer Teach-In on Building Power for the 99%


Pittsburgh, PA–(ENEWSPF)–February 2, 2012. Occupy Pittsburgh joins with Occupy the Hood to bring discussion on important social and economic justice issues of our city, region, and nation.  Activists from all backgrounds, neighborhoods, life circumstances and political viewpoints will share experiences and insight while strengthening the diverse community that the Occupy movement has caused to take shape.

This event will be held on Saturday, February 4 from noon to 5:30 at the Community Empowerment Association Arts, Culture, and Training Institute located at 7120 Kelly Street in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh. 

From Occupy Wall Street to Occupy the Hood: Building Power for the 99% will include general sessions and 12 workshops presented on a variety of topics.  The focus of workshops will include race- and class-based barriers to health care; fighting cuts in public transportation; building organized labor movements; understanding racism; stopping urban gentrification; education disparity; ending the mass incarceration crisis; economic justice; alternatives to corporate power; social oppression; and political education.
