WASHINGTON–(ENEWSPF)–November 8, 2012. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today joined Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas to participate in a special citizenship ceremony for adopted children, in recognition of National Adoption Month.
“We have a strong tradition of welcoming immigrants who come here from around the world, to seek better lives for themselves and their families, and to contribute to our country,” said Secretary Napolitano. “I am proud to recognize these young Americans today as we commemorate National Adoption Month.”
During the ceremony, Secretary Napolitano administered the Oath of Allegiance and delivered remarks congratulating the 20 adopted children—and their families—who come from 7 different nations: China, Ethiopia, Guatemala, India, Nepal, South Korea and Thailand.
On Nov. 1, 2012, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation designating November as National Adoption Month, encouraging all Americans to help find a permanent and caring family for every child in need and by supporting the families who care for them.
