Readout Of Secretary Napolitano’s Visit To New York


NEW YORK CITY–(ENEWSPF)–September 11, 2012.  Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano was in New York City today to participate in commemorative events honoring 9/11 victims, their families, first responders and rescue workers.

“Eleven years later, our memories of those we lost, and our determination to keep America safe, have never been stronger,” said Secretary Napolitano.  “Together, on this anniversary, we move forward with hope, resolve, and resilience.”

In the morning, Secretary Napolitano joined New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and other officials in a commemoration ceremony at Ground Zero, where they observed four moments of silence in memory of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. During the ceremony, family members and other officials participated in the reading of the names of all those who lost their lives. Later, Secretary Napolitano attended the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Memorial Service, honoring families and first responders.

Yesterday in New York City, Secretary Napolitano addressed families, survivors, and rescue and recovery workers at the VOICES of September 11th interfaith service and visited the New York Police Department Midtown South precinct and New York City Fire Department.
