Representatives Engel, Schakowsky Offer Measure Marking 20th Anniversary of Yitzhak Rabin’s Assassination

WASHINGTON, DC—(ENEWSPF)–November 6, 2015.  Representative Eliot L. Engel (NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs; Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL); Chair of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East; and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL) today introduced a resolution in the House of Representative commemorating the 20th anniversary of the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and honoring Rabin’s life and legacy.

“Even after 20 years, I’m heartbroken that a man who fought so hard for peace lost his life to such unthinkable violence,” said Rep. Engel. “We honor Yitzhak Rabin’s memory with this resolution, and by continuing to work for the ideals he embodied and common humanity he saw in everyone: the shared aims of all people, as he put it, ‘to build a home, plant a tree, love, live side by side… in dignity, empathy, as human beings.’”

“Yitzhak Rabin was a tireless advocate and champion for the nation of Israel. He made it his life’s mission to secure a lasting peace between Israel and Palestine,” said Rep. Schakowsky. “On this 20th anniversary of his assassination, I am honored to sign on to a resolution that honors his life and redoubles our commitment to peace between Israel and Palestine.”

Citing his life’s work as a public servant supporting the Israeli state and advancing peace, the resolution honors Rabin’s historic role, reaffirms the close ties between the United States and Israel, condemns terrorism, and expresses support for peace between the Israelis and Palestinians and those working to promote it.
