Senator Bernie Sanders Looks Forward to Pope Francis’ Address to Congress

Pope FrancisWashington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–February 5, 2015. Pope Francis will address a joint session of Congress on Sept. 24. The first-ever speech to Congress by any leader of the world’s Roman Catholics will occur during a planned trip to the United States that also will feature a speech at the United Nations in New York and a massive rally for families in Philadelphia.

“I am delighted that Pope Francis will address a joint session of Congress during his American visit this fall,” said Sen. Bernie Sandersafter the announcement on Thursday. The pope has played an extraordinary international role since he was elected in speaking out about the growing gap between the rich and everybody else and the power large financial institutions exert over the American and world economies. I hope very much that Congress listens closely to the pope’s message.”
