Senator Wyden Statement on the 50th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act

Washington, D.C. –(ENEWSPF)–August 6, 2015.  Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act:

“Fifty years ago today, the Voting Rights Act confirmed the universal right to vote as a bedrock principle in this country. But in 2015, that fundamental right is under attack. Denying any American a vote – or making it more difficult for someone to vote – denies that person a voice in their own self-governance and is antithetical to our democracy. I will continue to work to protect the voices of all Americans by ensuring the voting system is modernized and accessible to allow every citizen in this country to cast a ballot.”
