The U.S. Government Has Shut Down. What’s Open? What’s Closed?


Washington, D.C.-(ENEWSPF)- The United States government has shut down.

What’s open? What’s closed?

ABC News reports that the following are closed/impacted:

  • Al National Parks are closed.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has ceased disease surveillance.
  • Most routine food inspections by the Food and Drug Administration are suspended.
  • About half the Defense Department’s civilian employees will be furloughed.
  • The IRS will cancel audit appointments. (Well, there’s always that.)

The following are not closed/impacted:

  • The Post Office and Amtrak.
  • Social Security payments will continue to go out.
  • 1.4 million active-duty military personnel stay on duty.
  • Most Homeland Security agents and border officers keep working.
  • Most Department of Veterans Affairs services will continue.
