U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs Issues Travel Warning for Republic of South Sudan

Washington, DC—(ENEWSPF)—January 3, 2014. The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens against all travel to the Republic of South Sudan and recommends that U.S. citizens currently in South Sudan depart immediately.  As a result of the deteriorating security situation, the Department of State ordered the departure of most remaining U.S. government personnel from South Sudan on January 3, 2014.  The U.S. Embassy is therefore no longer able to provide any consular services to U.S. citizens in the Republic of South Sudan.  This Travel Warning supersedes the Travel Warning issued on December 17, 2013, to reflect the deteriorating security situation.

The U.S. Embassy has further drawn down its personnel on January 3, 2014, and therefore cannot provide consular services to U.S. citizens in South Sudan.  U.S. citizens who are in need of emergency assistance in South Sudan should contact the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi:

Telephone: +254-(20) 363 6451
Emergencies: +254-(20) 363 6170
Email: [email protected]

If you seek information about U.S. citizens services in South Sudan from the Directorate of Overseas Citizens Services in Washington, please email: [email protected].

The Department of State urges those U.S. citizens who decide to remain in South Sudan despite this Travel Warning to provide their current contact information and next-of-kin information through the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
