Vehicle Born Improvised Explosive Device Kills 2 Afghan Civilians; Injures 77 ISAF Personnel

KABUL, Afghanistan–(ENEWSPF)–Sep. 11, 2011.  Two Afghan civilians were killed and a significant number of ISAF and Afghan civilians were injured as a result of the Vehicle Born Improvised Explosive Device attack at approx 5:30 p.m. at Combat Outpost Sayed Abad, Wardak province, yesterday.

Seventy-seven ISAF personnel and less than 25 Afghan civilians have received non-life-threatening injuries. The majority of injured ISAF personnel will likely return to duties shortly.

Injured personnel were evacuated to medical facilities throughout the area or were treated on scene.

The perimeter wall, as well as a maintenance facility, was damaged in the attack; however the protective barriers around the site absorbed most of the explosion.

The COP remains operational and protective barriers have been repaired after the failed attempt by insurgents to degrade operational capabilities and cause loss of life to coalition troops.
