Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–April 29, 2013. Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth introduced the Troop Talent Act of 2013. The Troop Talent Act of 2013 improves the alignment of specialty skills acquired in the military with civilian certifications or licenses required for post-service employment. It will also allow Military Tuition Assistance (MTA) and the Post 9-11 GI Bill to be used on courses and programs that guarantee a credential or industry certification after successful completion. 27 members of Congress joined Congresswoman Duckworth and signed on as original cosponsors to the bipartisan legislation. A companion bill has been introduced in the Senate by Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA).
“The unemployment rate for Veterans who have served in the military since 2001 is nearly 10%,” said Duckworth. “That number is simply unacceptable. Our Veterans deserve every opportunity to achieve the American Dream that they fought for.”
“The Troop Talent Act will allow Veterans to better transition into positions in the private sector. Members of our military who serve in positions such as truck drivers and pilots should be able to earn credentials for similar roles in the private sector at the same time.
