IDVA Hosts ‘Helping Our Hometown Heroes’ Veterans Benefits Fair in Elgin

ELGIN–(ENEWSPF)–May 4, 2011.  The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) hosted a Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits fair for veterans today at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, to assist veterans with accessing benefits information from federal, state and local agencies and organizations in one location.

“Helping Our Hometown Heroes is a great resource for veterans to learn about and tap into all the benefits they have earned and are entitled to receive,” said IDVA Director Dan Grant. “We appreciate all of the agencies that support these events and are working hard to serve veterans and their families in this community.”

More than two dozen federal, state and local agencies and organizations throughout the region attended the event, which was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and was free and open to the public.

Participating organizations included the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission, Elgin Area Chambers of Commerce, Senior Services Associates, and the Illinois Army National Guard, among many others. At least 18 employers also provided information about available employment for veterans.

The event was the latest in a series of Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits fairs being held statewide through December. For the full schedule of Helping Our Hometown Heroes events, please visit www.veterans.illinois.gov.
