ISAF Joint Command Morning Operational Update, October 18, 2012


KABUL, Afghanistan–(ENEWSPF)–October 18, 2012  — An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader in Kandahar province, today.
 
The arrested leader facilitated the use of homemade explosives and improvised explosive device-making material across Afghan boarders into north eastern Helmand province.
 
During the operation, the security force detained two suspected insurgents and discovered explosive residue.

Afghan and coalition forces today confirmed the death of Taliban leader Faizani during a security operation in Helmand province, Sept. 28. Faizani, also known as Kirahmat or Abdul Wasay, coordinated the movement of Taliban fighters and weapons within northern Helmand province.
 
Approximately 22 locals from Mirokheyl Village volunteered to become members of the Afghan Local Police, Oct. 16. These candidates were vetted through the Mirokheyl Village elders, the Maruf District Chief of Police and the district governor to help mitigate insider threats and Taliban infiltration.

An Afghan and coalition force detained a number of insurgents during a security operation in search of an improvised explosive device expert in Logar province today.
