Senator Kirk Presents Lincolnwood Army Reservist with Legion of Merit Award

Col. Joseph Noferi receives medal after 30-year Army Reserve Career

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–April 2, 2013.  U.S. Senator Kirk (R-Ill.) yesterday presented Colonel Joseph F. Noferi of Lincolnwood with the Legion of Merit military award during a special ceremony in Sen. Kirk’s Chicago office.

The Legion of Merit award was established by Congress in 1942 and is presented to members of the armed forces for exceptional meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service and achievement. Col. Noferi received the prestigious award in recognition of 30 years of exceptional service as a U.S. Army Reservist.

“Through his commitment and leadership, Colonel Noferi has proven himself an invaluable asset to our nation,” Sen. Kirk said. “I am proud to present him with the Legion Merit award in recognition of the numerous contributions that he has made as an Army Reservist.”

Col. Noferi served as a Reserve Attaché to Italy and the United Kingdom, and Directorate for Counterintelligence and Human Intelligence within the Defense Intelligence Agency. Under Col. Noferi’s leadership, the Chicago Joint Reserve Unit became the highest per-capita developer of Foreign Military Intelligence Collection Activity accounts.  These accounts provided critical information to service members in Afghanistan and Iraq.
