Indiana Firm Recalls Barbecue Beef, Pork and Chicken Products


WASHINGTON–(ENEWSPF)–May 6, 2011 – Butterfield Foods, a Noblesville, Ind., establishment is recalling approximately 285,100 pounds of barbecue beef, pork and chicken products because they contain an undeclared allergen, soy, which is not declared on the label.

  • Two five lb. cases (Net Wt. 10 lbs.) of “BUTTERFIELD FOODS TEXAS STYLE BBQ SAUCE WITH PORK” with a case code of “05002205.”
  • Two five lb. tubs (Net Wt. 10 lbs.) of “AMISH CLASSIC TEXAS STYLE BBQ PORK” with a case code of “05002205AC.”
  • Two five lb. cases (Net Wt. 10 lbs) of “BUTTERFIELD FOODS TEXAS STYLE BBQ SAUCE WITH PORK” with a case code of “05002816.”
  • Two five lb. cases (Net Wt. 10 lbs.) of “BUTTERFIELD FOODS TEXAS STYLE BBQ SAUCE WITH BEEF” with a case code of “01007205.”
  • Two five lb. tubs (Net Wt. 10 lbs.) of “AMISH CLASSIC TEXAS STYLE BBQ SAUCE WITH BEEF” with a case code of “01007205AC.”
  • Eight one lb. cases (Net Wt. 8 lbs.) of “BUTTERFIELD FOODS TEXAS STYLE BBQ SAUCE WITH BEEF” with a case code of “01007816.”
  • Two five lb. cases (Net Wt. 10 lbs.) of “BUTTERFIELD FOODS TEXAS STYLE BBQ SAUCE WITH CHICKEN” with a case code of “02011205.”
  • Two five lb. tubs (Net Wt. 10 lbs.) of “AMISH CLASSIC TEXAS STYLE BBQ SAUCE WITH CHICKEN” with a case code of “0211205AC.”
  • Eight one lb. cases (Net Wt. 8 lbs.) of “BUTTERFIELD FOODS TEXAS STYLE BBQ SAUCE WITH CHICKEN” with a case code of “02011816.”
  • Five lb. aluminum trays of “BUTTERFIELD FOODS CASINO RIB FINGERS IN SAUCE” with a case code of “05082206.”

Each case bears the establishment number “P-6945” or “EST. 6945” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced between April 2, 2010 and May 5, 2011 and were distributed to retail establishments and restaurants in Indiana.

The problem was discovered by FSIS during a cross-referencing of labels as part of label verification by Agency inspection personnel. The problem occurred as a result of a change in product formulation by the company. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks (including at restaurants) to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and to ensure that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
