Mrs. Gerry’s Kitchen, Inc Product Recall Due to Potential Health Hazard


ALAMEDA, CA–(ENEWSPF)–March 11, 2010.  Mrs. Gerry’s Kitchen, Inc. of Albert Lea, MN has been notified by a supplier that a certain product it supplies to Mrs. Gerry’s contains hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) that may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may experience fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody) and abdominal pain. In rare cases the organism can get into the bloodstream and cause more severe complications including endocarditis, arthritis and arterial infections such as infected aneurysms. As a precautionary measure, Mrs. Gerry’s is voluntarily recalling a limited number of products.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product.

Mrs. Gerry’s is recalling the following item sold to retailers and distributors in these states: MN, IA, SD, ND, NE, KS, CO, WI, MI, IL, MO.

This product should not be eaten. Customers may return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
