Transpecos Foods, LP Issues Allergy Alert On Onion Ring Product


Silver Spring, Maryland–(ENEWSPF)–May 28, 2011.  Transpecos Foods, LP of Pecos, Texas is recalling the following items because they may contain undeclared Milk and/or Egg allergens:

Southern Home Diced Onion Rings, Net WT 20 oz (1 LB 4 OZ) 567 g, UPC 60788001108, sold prior to 5/27/2011,  packaged in a printed bag was distributed in South Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.

Shurfine Onion Rings, Net WT 16oz (1 LB) 454 g, UPC 01116113398, sold prior to 5/27/2011, packaged in a printed bag was distributed in Georgia and Wisconsin.

Food Club Onion Rings, Net WT 16oz (1 LB) 454 g, UPC 036800322165, sold prior to 5/27/20011, packaged in a printed bag was distributed in Texas, Pennsylvania, Alabama, New Jersey, and Wisconsin.

Better Valu Breaded Onion Rings, Net WT 16oz (1 LB) 454 g, UPC 079801995457, sold prior to 5/27/2011, packaged in a printed bag was distributed in Illinois, Minnesota, Texas and Missouri.

Best Choice Gourmet Onion Rings, Net WT 16oz (1 LB) 454 g. UPC 07003861113, sold prior to 5/27/2011, packaged in a printed bag was distributed in Vermont and Pennsylvania.

People who have an allergy or sensitivity to Milk and/or Egg allergens run the risk of an allergic reaction if they consume these products.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered through an in-depth label review that product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of Milk and/or Egg allergens.  Subsequent investigation indicates that the problem was caused by a miscommunication between labeling and formulating operations.
