Current News from the Park Forest Historical Society

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)–November 2010. Step Back into a 1950s Christmas will be the December exhibit at the museum. Saturdays December 4, 11 and 18th from 1-3 p.m.  Groups by appointment at other times. 

This year, donation to this exhibit is by advance ticket of $3.00; 12 and under are free with a paying adult.

Gregory Randall returned with an updated edition of his now-classic book.  Signed copies of the book are for sale at the 1950s Park Forest House Museum, 141 Forest Blvd on Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. for $25.00 per copy.  The Society benefits from purchases made at the Museum.  The book would make a great Holiday gift for someone on your list! 

 Randall is the author of other books, including fiction; and four books on the gardens of England and

Scotland, co-authored with his wife, Bonnie. Randall’s bibliography can be seen on his website, www.gregorycrandall.com.

Upcoming:  The 25th Anniversary Luncheon will be on Sunday January 30th 1:30 p.m. at Dining on the Green.  Details soon.

Hall of Fame:

Nominations for the Hall of Fame are accepted from the public between October 1 and December 15 each year.  Nominees are selected for consistent, beneficial service to the citizens of Park Forest over a long span of time.  The official nomination form must be used and nominations must include requested information to be accepted. Forms are made available through the mail to all members of the society, and can be picked up beginning in early October at Village Hall, the Park Forest Public Library, or the 1950s Park Forest House Museum. A committee of the Park Forest Historical Society makes the final selelction.

Names of the members of the Hall of Fame are available on the historical society website at www.parkforesthistory.org, and aslo on two plaques which hang in the Ringering Room of the Park Forest Public Libray (not on dispaly during renovation).  Biographical information on the members previously inducted is available in the Adult Services area of the library, in the Hall of Fame albums and in the Park Forest files, under “Park Forest Hall of Fame.”

 The Park Forest Historical Society is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2010-2011. It operates the 1950s Park Forest House Museum at 141 Forest Blvd.

If you missed the book reading by Amy Peele, the Society has 10 copies of her book for sale at the museum.  They sell for $16.
