CAIR Endorses MuslimARC ‘Call for Justice’ Open Letter Challenging Racism

MuslimARC-logoWASHINGTON, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–February 9, 2015 – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today announced that it has endorsed the Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative’s (MuslimARC) “Call for Justice” open letter to address and challenge racism within Muslim communities.

The letter reads in part:

“Our faith mandates that American Muslims advocate for justice in the killings of all innocent civilians irrespective of whether it is the popular stance to take. Let us align ourselves with the countless others who are demanding justice by declaring that this stops today.

“Islam encourages a tradition of standing with marginalized members of society. Today, let us stand with those who state that ‘Black Lives Matter.’ Let us practice what we preach with regards to community unity and participation. Let us have honest conversations, challenge our nafs, and examine where we may improve our adab and akhlaq when it comes to racist tendencies.”

“We should all work together to live the spirit of the verse, “O humankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes that you may know each other (not that you may despise each other). Verily, the most honored of you in the sight of God is the most righteous of you,'” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.
