NARAL Pro-Choice America: On Abortion Access, Bernie Sanders Still Doesn’t Get It. Hillary Clinton Does

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–April 19, 2016.  NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement in response to Hillary Clinton’s comments about our nation’s crisis of abortion access at today’s rally in New York:

“At a time when women are going to jail for miscarriages, and when women’s health clinics are being shuttered at a record pace, leaving women with fewer options for reproductive health care, cancer screenings, and abortion care, Bernie Sanders still doesn’t seem to get the real crisis at hand. Women are literally being hurt and their lives and their futures are on the line. And it’s getting worse. Hillary Clinton gets it, which is why she must be our next president.

“She is the only candidate in this race who has actively fought for women’s equality her entire life. She wants to expand reproductive freedom because doing so breaks down barriers for women and families. She puts women at the center of every conversation, because she knows that women’s rights are human rights. And she knows that it’s not just a ‘distraction’ when a Republican candidate threatens to punish women for having an abortion – it’s a clear and present danger to families across our country.

“She’s right: Defending Americans’ access to abortion is one of her core issues, and yes, it is appalling for any candidate to dismiss the abortion access crisis as a mere distraction. That’s why we need a true champion for reproductive freedom in the White House.”
