SEIU’s Henry: Where Are Righteous Republicans When Millions of Hardworking Americans Need Healthcare?

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–October 31, 2013.

“If far-right Republicans care about everyday Americans and the quality of their healthcare, why don’t they stand up for millions of Americans who would gain coverage under Medicaid if Governors only accepted federal funds?

SEIU’s nurses, doctors, librarians and security guards meet hardworking women and men like Cecelia Fontenot of Houston every day. Cecilia is a part-time accountant in her early 60s who can’t afford the second mammogram that her doctors recommend. She hopes to qualify for low-cost health insurance through the federal marketplace, but if she doesn’t she’ll be back to getting by on a prayer, since Texas did not accept federal Medicaid funding.

Americans like Cecelia Fontenot will be left behind to face serious illness or medical bankruptcy if we let extremist Republicans in Congress have their way.

As more and more Americans learn about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, there will be less and less patience for congressional hearings that waste time, instead of fixing and strengthening the law. For the majority of working Americans who believe that Congress should work together to solve the critical issues facing our country, that day cannot come fast enough.”
