Sierra Club Responds to Trump Campaign Attacks: “Trump is Jabbing at a Beehive”

WASHINGTON, D.C. –(ENEWSPF)–October 3, 2016.  Yesterday, the Donald Trump campaign attempted to smear the Sierra Club’s endorsement of Secretary Hillary Clinton in a press release, failing to recognize that the American public broadly supports the clean energy transition the Sierra Club and its 2.4 million members and supporters back every day.

Trump’s attacks reinforce the fact that he is running on the most anti-environmental and anti-climate action platform in history, while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is running on the strongest. The Sierra Club recently began running online ads that emphasize that fact.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“It’s not just the Sierra Club’s 2.4 million members and supporters who want to move beyond dirty fuels toward the thriving, job-creating clean energy economy: it’s large majorities of the American people, whether they are Democrats, Independents, or Republicans. Trump and his campaign would know that if they took advice on energy policy from anyone but the most desperate fossil fuel industry lobbyists. Instead, the Trump campaign is doing the only thing they know how to do: attack and smear everyday Americans, like the millions standing up across the country to protect our air and our water.

“That’s not just unpresidential, it’s also not going to work. Trump is jabbing at a beehive by attacking the country’s rapid transition to a booming clean energy economy and the passionate, committed, and talented people who are pushing for the healthy communities Americans want. Clean energy is adding American jobs twelve times faster than the rest of the economy, and Secretary Clinton is showing real leadership with a climate action plan to keep that momentum going by adding enough solar energy to power every home in the country. Trump is going to learn the hard way that attacking those working to keep the clean energy economy thriving are the wrong people to mess with, as we are more committed than ever before to defeat him and his historically atrocious environmental policy by electing a clean energy champion in Hillary Clinton.”
