Candlelight Vigil on October 3 to Kickoff Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)–October 1, 2016.  South Suburban Family Shelter will hold its annual Candlelight Vigil on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 at 6 p.m. to kickoff a month of activities in October as Domestic Violence Awareness month.

The event will be held at the Irwin Community Center Band Shell at 18120 Highland, in Homewood, IL.

There will be victim testimonies, awareness exhibits will be on display, music, and a representative from the Cook County state’s attorney’s office Domestic Violence division as well.

“This event helps us bring awareness to the community of the devastating effects of domestic violence, and also empowers survivors to speak of their journey from victim to survivor,” according to Vicki Meilach, community outreach coordinator for South Suburban Family Shelter.

“We encourage community groups and individuals to attend the Vigil to learn more about DV and services available in our community. There will be resource material available and counselors in attendance to answer questions attendees may have.”

More information about the Candlelight Vigil is with Meilach at 708-794-2140, ext.303.
