CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–June 6, 2017.  The Chicago Sculpture International show, “InterAction,” features 19 artists’ works in a wide range of media. The exhibit is open at Prairie State College (PSC) in the Christopher Art Gallery through June 13, with a reception on Wednesday, June 7, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on the main campus at 202 S. Halsted in Chicago Heights.

The exhibit is a show of curated works by a cooperative of  more than 150 sculptors from Chicago, the United States, and abroad. The group focuses on the advancement and appreciation of sculpture through exhibitions, workshops and collaborations.

The exhibit is curated by Christopher Art Gallery Director Beth Shadur, who carefully chose a range of works in terms of style, media and subject matter. She also considered a balance of works for the wall, pedestals and as floor installations.

“The show looks wonderful because of the work of such amazing artists,” said Shadur.  “As a curator, I must admit having a difficult time with choosing for this exhibition because there was so much fine work to consider,” she said.

Due to spatial constraints and limited space, Shadur said there were a number of works that could not be included in the show.

“My main criteria in choosing works were to find compelling images, that encouraged audience ‘interaction’ on an emotional, aesthetic and intellectual basis,” said Shadur.

Artists, including Yvette Kaiser Smith, Suzanne Cohan-Lange, Shelley Gilchrist, Terry Karpowicz and Richard Shipp, use a wide creative range of materials in their work, from plastic fiber, wood, paper, ceramics and metal, to natural materials.

The Christopher Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Visits also can be made by appointment. For more information about the exhibit or to make an appointment for a visit, call (708) 709-7738.
