Senior Day at Crete Public Library on May


Crete, IL—(ENEWSPF)—April 21, 2017.  The Crete Public Library will offer a special day of programming for seniors on Thursday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Register for Senior Day by calling the library at 708-672-8017.

9:30 a.m.
Library opens. Sign-in and enjoy light breakfast items in the Coffee Connection area.

10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Communication Tips for Seniors
Is someone you know hard of hearing? Come learn tips for making conversation easier and preventing misunderstandings. Our speaker is Sarah Wegley, who has a M.A. in Communication Studies and personal experience with overcoming hearing loss. She presented at the Association of Late Deafened Adults national convention, September 2016.

10:30 – 11:00 a.m. Captioned Phones Demonstration
Learn about new captioned phone technology designed to help people with hearing loss stay socially connected with loved ones, conduct important business, and maintain confident communications for a longer, happier, healthier life. If you have a documented hearing loss, you may be eligible for a free phone. Presented by Nancy Karam of CaptionCall.

11:00 – 11:15 a.m.
Take a short break.

11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Recreational Bingo
Hosted by Victoria Pierce and Dawn Griffin from Clarendale of Schererville, a newly constructed senior center with independent living, assisted living, and memory care.

12:00 – 12:30 p.m. Box lunch from Subway *

12:30 – 1:00 p.m. Capturing Crete: A local history digitization project of the Crete Public Library and Crete Area Historical Society. Presented by Megan Vasquez, Crete Public Library Technology Coordinator. She created the website for the project: http://capturingcrete.org/.

1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Lights, Camera, Movies: Hit Songs from Hollywood Movies: Musical performance by vocalist Maureen Christine (www.maureenchristine.com/) Courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

* Note: The box lunch will be available to the first 35 people who register. For the first week, this is available for Crete residents only, but after April 23, anyone can sign up for the lunch, if spots remain. For all other programs on Senior Day, registration is open up to 80 people and attendees can register for each session they want to attend.
