House Committee Seeks Details on Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–April 29, 2010.  Today Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak sent letters to BP America Inc. and Transocean Ltd. regarding recent reports on the failure of the blowout preventer on the Deepwater Horizon rig to shut off the flow of oil as a significant factor in the oil spill.

The Committee is requesting copies of the inspection reports of the rig and the blowout preventer, as well as documents related to the companies’ policies on using remote control acoustic shut off switches.

This request is part of an investigation into the adequacy of the companies’ risk management and emergency response plans for accidental oil and gas releases at the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and other offshore deep water or ultra-deep water drilling facilities.
