Secretary Chu to Travel to Houston to Continue Engagement on Strategies to Stop Oil Spill

Washington D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–May 24, 2010.  The U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu will travel to Houston tonight as part of his ongoing work on strategies to stop the oil spill. Secretary Chu has been working with the Department’s National Laboratories and other top scientists to help BP determine how to stop the leak, and exploring ideas about the most effective scientific and engineering approaches to the problem.

The Department of Energy has also been offering its resources and technical assistance to the Flow Rate Technical Group led by MMS, NOAA and USCG.

Secretary Chu was originally planning to travel to China this week, but postponed the trip at the request of President Obama to continue his work on response efforts to the BP oil spill. The Secretary was scheduled to visit Beijing and Shanghai to discuss further progress on bilateral clean energy cooperation.
