Three Earthquakes Strike Chile During Swearing In Ceremony for New President


Santiago, Chile–(ENEWSPF)–March 11, 2010.  Three strong aftershocks hit Chile today during the swearing in ceremony for its new President, Sebastian Pinera.  Today’s aftershocks are being reported as the strongest to rattle Chile since the February 27 earthquake.

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit at 11:39 a.m. (local time) followed by a 6.9 magnitude quake approximately 16 minutes later.  The third quake measuring 6.0 hit 27 minutes later.

The epicenter was reported as being approximately 95 miles south-southwest of Santiago.  There are currently no reports of damage or injuries.
