Congresswoman Duckworth Celebrates Anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–February 5, 2013. Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth released the following statement on the 20 year anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) being signed into law:

Twenty years ago today, the Family and Medical Leave Act gave relief to millions of hard-working American families. With this landmark legislation, workers could take leave to care for a sick family member, care for a newborn child, and help adjust to the deployment of a family member in the military. The Family and Medical Leave act stands up for women, it stands up for families, and it stands up for our brave men and women who serve in our Armed Forces. As someone who went through a personal tragedy that required months of care in the hospital, I know how important it is to have a loved one by your side in those moments. I look forward to protecting and strengthening the provisions of this landmark legislation as a Member of Congress and working on behalf of all initiatives for working families, who are the backbone of our economy and country.
