Michelle Obama Calls on Americans to Drink More Water

Environmental Working Group’s Filter Guide Can Help

WASHINGTON, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)-September 12, 2013. Environmental Working Group applauds First Lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to get Americans to drink more water instead of soft drinks. Consuming plenty of water daily has a number of positive effects on people’s health.

“Once again, the First Lady is using her influence to improve the health of the American people with this unprecedented effort focused on the importance of drinking more water,” said Heather White, executive director of EWG. “Drinking plenty of water is essential to healthy living. It makes up about 70 percent of our bodies and must be regularly replenished.”

Drinking filtered tap water is by far the best choice, since depending on where you live, tap water can come with a mix of contaminants.

One way to dramatically reduce exposure to these pollutants while drinking plenty of water is to invest in a water filter. Researchers at EWG spent months analyzing the effectiveness of various household water filter systems, compiling a list of options that fits the needs (and wallets) of all Americans.

EWG’s easy-to-use online guide can help any consumer figure out the best option for his or her home: the most effective, the least expensive, which ones remove specific contaminants and which ones will best soften hard water.
