CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL–(ENEWSPF)–December 6, 2011. Looking forward to the new year and a new legislative session, state Rep Anthony DeLuca (D-Chicago Heights) remains focused on his top priority of advancing projects that will create economic opportunity for southland residents.
“As I speak to constituents throughout my district, one of the most frequent topics discussed is the need to have good paying jobs in our communities,” DeLuca said. “I always appreciate the feedback I receive from the people I represent; it is both valuable and useful when setting my legislative priorities. I have been a strong voice advocating for the southland region for many years.”
For years, DeLuca has consistently promoted both local and regional job producing initiatives. In 2003 when first elected Mayor of Chicago Heights, he engineered a policy to sell unused city-owned property to private entities in order to get them back on the tax rolls. The goal was to attract businesses and create jobs in the community, and it worked. At a time when the unemployment rate in many communities was rising, it was decreasing in Chicago Heights.
More recently as state representative, DeLuca worked to make it easier to do business in Illinois by reforming the state’s worker’s compensation system in a way that will save employers millions of dollars a year. Moving forward into the next session, his focus will primarily be on continuing his push for much-needed infrastructure improvements such as the Illiana Expressway, a third regional airport, creating the Metra Southeast Service, and bringing a casino to the southland.
“I have worked closely with our business community, area legislators, mayors and other elected officials. I have supported the Southland Chamber of Commerce and the Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau’s job producing initiatives,” DeLuca said. “I will continue to support utilizing our excellent transportation infrastructure to expand our intermodal facilities and to successfully enter into public private partnerships that create good paying jobs in the region.”
