SPRINGFIELD–(ENEWSPF)–July 26, 2010. Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA) Director Charles D. Johnson says applications are now available to nominate candidates for this year’s Senior Hall of Fame Awards. The annual award honors the contributions of older persons in the state. Nomination forms are available at local Area Agencies on Aging, by calling the Senior HelpLine at (800) 252-8966 or at the website http://www.state.il.us/aging. IDoA will accept nomination forms by fax and mail through August 23, 2010.
“Nominating someone for the Senior Hall of Fame is a great way to honor exceptional individuals who have worked and selflessly given their time to help others,” said Director Johnson. “And since we have so many older adults who fit that description, I know we should receive a lot of applications promoting all their wonderful contributions and achievements.”
Seventy five people have been inducted into the Senior Hall of Fame since it was established in 1994 by the Illinois General Assembly. The award recognizes older adults who excel in the categories of 1) Community Service, 2) Education, 3) Performance and/or Graphic Arts and, 4) Labor Force.
Eligibility is based on the nominee’s past and present accomplishments in the category of choice. Candidates must be age 65 or older and a current Illinois resident or a former citizen, who has lived in the state most of his or her life. Nominations are also accepted for posthumous awards.
Each year, winners are inducted into the Senior Hall of Fame during a special ceremony, sponsored by Walgreen’s. This year, the awards program is set for October.
