O’Hare May Get Body Scanners by End Of March

Chicago, IL–(ENEWSPF)–

From the Chicago Tribune :

O’Hare International Airport will get full passenger body-scanning equipment next year, perhaps as early as the first quarter, Chicago’s aviation commissioner said today.

But Rosemary Andolino was short on specifics, saying she didn’t know how many scanners will be installed or where they will be.

Plans to install the advanced security technology were well under way before Friday’s bombing attempt over Detroit in which an alleged terrorist boarded the plane with explosives sewn into his underwear.

The new procedure, which is sure to make some passengers blush and others burn in anger over what critics call a virtual reality strip-search, is part of a "security evolution" at airport passenger checkpoints around the country.

The final decision on timing and how much scanning equipment will be installed at O’Hare is up to the Transportation Security Administration, which is responsible for security at the nation’s airports. TSA officials weren’t available for comment.
