Rep. Gutiérrez’ Reaction to President Obama’s Immigration Announcement

PRESIDENT WILL DO WHAT CONGRESS REFUSED TO DO

Washington, DC –(ENEWSPF)–July 1, 2014.  Yesterday, Rep. Luis V. Gutiérrez (D-IL) issued the following statement in reaction to the President’s Rose Garden announcement regarding his intentions to address immigration and deportation through executive actions within existing law.  Rep. Luis V. Gutiérrez represents the Fourth District of Illinois, is a Member of the Judiciary Committee and the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security, and is the Chairman of the Immigration Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

“The antidote for do-nothingism is doing something and the President is doing for the American people what the Republican-controlled Congress refused to do.  This is the President I voted for.  The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has already submitted a list of actions he can take under current law to add some rationality to our irrational immigration system and I look forward to working with him to vet those ideas and others he can take to help the American people.”
