Skokie, IL. –-(ENEWSPF)–August 14, 2015. Rep. Jan Schakowsky delivered Meals on Wheels to Evanston and Skokie residents on Thursday and released the following statement on the experience:
“For millions of seniors and people with disabilities, Meals on Wheels is an essential program. Today I delivered meals with Barbara Rabyne, from Council of Jewish Elderly, a nonprofit that coordinates the program for our community. It was a privilege to knock on doors and drop off nutritious meals to people in our community. I enjoyed seeing them smile, and I was glad to do my part, but I really commend the Meals on Wheels workers who ensure people get their meals on a regular basis.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Older Americans Act, which includes the extremely vital Meals on Wheels program. As we celebrate this special anniversary, along with today’s historic 80th anniversary of Social Security, it should remind us of how important it is to support seniors and people with disabilities. I will always fight to protect and expand, Meals on Wheels – we should never be comfortable with our neighbors going hungry.”
