Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– On Wednesday September 10 the League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area (LWVPFA) invites members and friends to the annual potluck dinner and opening meeting. The dinner will be held at 6:30 pm at the home of Marge Friedman Scherr, 33 Monee Road, Park Forest.
The program will be the "Past, Present, and Future" of our league which will give members and potential members an opportunity to learn about the group’s accomplishments — both historically and currently — and an opportunity to present ideas for new programs and activities.
Our Voters Services committee has been especially active lately. In just one month this year they registered 160 new voters!
The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area is a nonpartisan political education and action organization welcoming all women and men interested in promoting responsible government at any level. We study issues, get to know public officials, observe at public meetings, register and educate voters, and present candidate forums as well as other informative programs of interest to the public. The informational and educational programs are open to the public and are usually held monthly. By joining you’ll receive notice of meetings via the newsletter, participate in the League’s efforts to have good government, and help your community!
Recent programs have included candidate forums, the annual House Tour which demonstrates Park Forest’s housing diversity and possibilities, a talk on global warming, and a Summit on the status of local governments and school districts. Upcoming programs include information, besides the meeting on SouthCom, the area’s combined 911 dispatch, include discussions of a proposed position on immigration reform, and forums for candidates for village boards and local school districts.
