Young alums return to address current juniors

Chicago Heights, IL-(ENEWSPF)- More than 50 Marian Catholic young alumni recently returned to their alma mater for College Day, co-sponsored by the Marian Catholic Alumni Association and the MCHS Guidance Department. After catching up with classmates and an informal lunch, grads participated in a panel discussion with the entire junior class in the Sr. M. Paul McCaughey O.P. Leadership Center. Questions ranging from college workload intensity to problems with roommates were answered, along with a few words of advice for juniors researching which kind of college experience may be best suited to them.

“Do your work first, then play,” said Matt Goedke, a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame. “If you do your homework and reading consistently, you won’t fall behind, no matter how difficult your program may be.”

Other grads were thankful for the educational and spiritual foundation they received at Marian.

“No matter where you go to college,” said Chris Karlin, a sophomore at Purdue University, “remember to take with you the strong work ethic and moral code you learned from your parents and at Marian. You will be prepared for any situation that may happen.”

Separating into smaller breakout groups of Illinois schools, Indiana schools, private schools, Midwest schools, and distant schools, the juniors had the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the grads for further information. Marian Catholic has offered College Day as a student resource for more than ten years.
