Rich East Rocket Cross Country Pulls to 3-2 in Dual Meets


Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Sophomore Dorian Simmons and senior Kirk Marshall led the Rich East Boys Cross Country to a victory over intra-district rival Rich Central in a Southland Athletic Conference victory Monday on the Rocket Cross Country Course in Park Forest.

Simmons and Marshall had times of 19:05 and 19:09, respectively, on the 3.0167-mile course, on a hot, muggy afternoon. Marshall had defeated Simmons a week earlier in the Rockets’ dual-meet victory over DelaSalle at Oakwood Park Beach on Chicago’s lakefront. 

In Monday’s meet, Jonathen Johnson was third in the race, as the Olympians’ harrier finished with a timr of 19:34. the Rockets’ LaRon Rogers (4th, 20:47), Central’s Terrell Shaw (5th, 21:11) and DeMarcus Wilson (6th, 21:56) and The Rockets’ Cordero Graham (7th, 21:58) rounded out the Top Seven.

Rich East is now 3-2 in dual meets this season.

On the girls side, Jazzmen Allen (23:58) and Janiah Jones (24:28) led the Rockets to their dual win over the the Olympians. Natasha Seymour (4th) led the Olympians.  Cheyenne Adams (4th, RE), MIchelle Winter (5th, RC), and the Rockets Dominique Hendricks (6th) and Jadxe Farley (7th) rounded out the Top seven for the girls. The Lady Rockets are also 3-2 in dual meets this season.

Both the boys and girls teams from Rich East and Rich Central will meet in the 48th annual Tolefree/Farley Cross Country Invitational at Midlothian Meadows Forest Preserve on Saturday.

The Rockets will host the 15th annual Larry Roland Lady Rocket Cross Country Invitational at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, on the Rocket Cross Country Course in Park Forest.
