University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Jan Engle of the Division of Digital Learning and Media Design at Governors State University recently received a 2010 Blackboard Catalyst Award for her creation of an online course “Designing Online Courses.” She was one of only 11 winners recognized in the Exemplary Course Program category.

Engle, of Monee, was honored during BbWorld®’10, Blackboard’s annual users’ conference held in July in Orlando, FL.

“Her outstanding development work has played a major role in developing the foundations of the graduate certificate program on online teaching at GSU,” noted Charles Nolley, Director of Division of Digital Learning and Media Design. “The multiple awards earned by these courses is an important indicator of the outstanding quality of this program,”

Since 2000, the Blackboard Exemplary Course Program has highlighted technologically rich courses that are engaging, well designed, and pedagogically sound, and that represent examples of best practices for the e-learning community. This year’s entries were evaluated in a rigorous peer-review process by a panel of more than 120 faculty from institutions around the world.

This is the third year that Engle has won the Exemplary Course award. Her work at GSU has been integral to the creation of the Certificate of Online Teaching, a four-course program offered completely online by Governors State University.

“This course models the best practices that it teaches as it prepares faculty to be effective online course designers,” says Engle.
